How long after the wedding does the bride and groom have to send out thank yous?

Traditionally, we are told you have a year, but I believe that dictum originated during the clipper ship era! Today ASAP! As soon as you receive the gift, even before the wedding, a thank you note is in order so that people will be assured their gift has been received. I hope this helps.
